Can you guess?

Can you guess what the dragon was used for?

Hints:

  • It is estimated to be 100+ years ago.
  • It is nothing evil or anything of the sort.
  • Notice the bar right above his head. There is something hanging from it.

Can you guess?

Ack!! I've seen something with a chain like that before...where was it???? AAAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHH
Brain Pain.

Surely it wasn't used a hunderd years ago to chain pens to desks??

Oh- I remember where I saw a chain like that. It was holding the lid to a crystal ink-pot.

Is yours a watch "fob" - or did it hold a timepiece?? Or did it really chain pens to a very posh counter?

I have no clue...I was going to say a door knocker. Lame, I know, but it's all I've got! :) Do love the old books in the pic. We have a lot of vintage books from estate sales and library sales in the Midwest. Love them! I even love the slight mildew-y smell!

Thanks for your kind comment on my blog. I didn't know it was such a chore to leave a comment. I changed something around, so it should be better. Let me know if it works for you, if you decide to try it.

Oh, the Starbuck's lady isn't my friend, per se; I just left a comment on the actual youtube page and she typed the thank you in her reply to me. I don't think she realized it was on any blogs...she thought it was cool.

Thanks again for your comment and critique!

The only thing I can come up with is that it was used for something in the ancient art of Chinese calligraphy

Hope, seriously, I see the chain, but am completely clueless as to its purpose...help us out. I haven't even had my first cup of coffee yet, the brain she isn't a workin yet!

Well, some of you were very close. Okay I'll tell ya so you can stop holding your breathe.

It is a...department store ring display from the early 1800's. A very dear friend gave this to me one day. Just because she knew I would like it.

I was going to say jewelry holder but that seemed to obvious to be right. Interesting that it was in the shape of a dragon though...
